A Little Shelf Indulgence

In May, I had the honor of presenting at Long Island’s annual fundraiser for the New Yorkers for Better Libraries Political Action Committee, and it was a blast. Libraries contribute so much to their communities, and better libraries make for a better New York, so entertaining folks who are determined to get politicians to pony up the proper funding at the state level was a real treat.

With that in mind, I put together a special short program just for the occasion—Shelf Indulgence: Libraries in Pop Culture—and it was such a hit that I’m now offering a full-length edition!

Shelf Indulgence takes an amusing, upbeat look at how libraries and librarians are portrayed in movies, TV, rock videos and more. Packed with insights and clips ranging from classic films like Ghostbusters and The Music Man to TV favorites like Friends and Family Guy, the program explores how pop culture’s view of libraries has changed (and sometimes hasn’t changed) with the times.
